PROCEEDS FROM THIS YEAR’S FUND-RAISING EVENT AT SCHU’S GRILL & BAR EXCEEDED $13,000 AND WILL BE DONATED TO THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED “MOLLY SCHULER ENDOWMENT FUND.”
Downtown St. Joseph, Michigan: Over the seven past consecutive years, Schu’s Grill & Bar has hosted a fundraising event, focusing on the triumphs of cancer survivors. This year’s “Schulebration,” its eighth annual, was especially significant for the Schuler family. Molly Schuler’s previous ten years of persistent successes with cancer continue to offer hope to many. In an effort to uphold Molly’s positive approach, her family established the “Molly Schuler Endowment Fund” at the Berrien Community Foundation shortly after her passing on February 16, 2006.
Over the course of the weekend of January 26-27,beginning with Friday’s lunch period, family members and friends of the Schuler family and Schu’s Grill & Bar waited tables during their “shifts” as Celebrity Servers. They encouraged their friends to come to Schu’s and tip generously, and then donated 100% of the tips they earned to the fund. A whopping $13,000 was raised through tips, including donations that were mailed or dropped off at the restaurant. Camp programs for underprivileged children, assistance for individuals and families with oncology care expenses, and Hospice, among others will benefit from the proceeds of “Schulebration 2007.”

“I am sincerely overwhelmed with the generosity of our local community,” said Larry Schuler, owner. “These kinds of funds provide the opportunity for greater giving --- and that’s what Molly was all about,” he added.
